Raba MAXS: Outstanding performance on Dakar
Although no Hungarian competitor participated in the Dakar rally in January, 2010, it ended with Hungarian success. The Czech truck of Martin Macik, having run more than 9,000 kilometres on axles developed and produced by the Győr based Rába, came in fourth in Buenos Aires.

The route of Dakar 2010 throughout Argentina and Chile was extremely challenging. On the first day of the year 52 trucks lined up for the start - 16 days later only 28 trucks could reach the finish line in Buenos Aires. According to the daily reports, the racers had to fight in the Andes against 5000 metres level differences, in the Atacama desert - on the driest fields of the world - with huge sand dunes.
The Gyor located Raba has developed their axles especially for such an extreme (off-road) application. The axle family called MAXS is a registered trade mark both in the American and European market. By now the Raba axles have relevant references: they have already been given highly positive feedback on various terrains under extreme conditions. They are installed in the trucks of the Hungarian Military, besides they are present on the American market as well. These axles have already proven their reliability on the Iraqi and Afghanistan terrain. The Gyor located company Raba has already started to introduce their axles on new markets, such as Russia.
Martin Macik has taken part in the Dakar series since 2004. This is not the first success of the team but the most relevant: earlier they had 11th, 12th places, this year 4th place. An another truck of the team, also equipped with Raba axles reached last year also the 4th place on the Central Europe Rally.
Raba has more decades developing & producing experience, in the last four years the company sold nearly 20 000 double reduction off-road axles. The off-road vehicle market is characterized by numerous individual needs and requirements, that’s why the engineers of Raba developed a modular system. By using the main units more than 200 varies can be installed.
The Dakar rally represents an ideal platform for Raba to test its developments. After the race the axles will be delivered back to Raba, the engineers will make both the necessary repair and tests.
