OUR PROFILE - THE MAIN MARKETS OF THE BUSINESS UNIT

The United States of America

In 2008, Rába increased its sales volume of the complete special axles further, thanks to the increasing volume of Marmon-Herrington deliveries, or rather to the augmentation of the John Deere contract. The business performance of the agricultural- and military vehicle markets fulfilled according to the prospects, too.

The European Union

Fulfilling the continuous regulations, the Business Unit focuses on selling of axle parts primarily in the Member States. As the same time, the economical environment affected unfavourable the needs of this segment in the end of 2008.

Instead of the deepening effects of the competition and the financial crisis, Rába could be able to strengthen its position in this region which was realized in the sector of agricultural machineries. According to this, the Business Unit signed up a delivery framework contract with the German Claas, in addition reinforced its relations with Volvo and Scania.

Eastern Europe

The year 2008 brought constant axle-deliveries. But in the first half of the previous year the signs of the stagnation had appeared which was followed by a sharp drop in the second half of the year because of the recession. Instead of this, Rába could be able to keep its determing market positions in the CIS-countries whereto it delivers axles for buses, trolley buses, and construction vehicles.

Asia

In 2008, the relations in Far-East were getting stronger: Rába continued the sales of spare parts in the framework of the previous license contract; in Japan, thanks to its cooperation with ISUZU and the increasing sales of incomplete axles, Rába retains its position.

Domestic market

The Hungarian market saw almost the same advantageous EU tendencies, though the second half of 2008 was adversely affected by significant budget cuts. The Axle Business Unit primarily produces products for the manufacturers of specialty vehicles, so most of its products are for export. However, two of its domestic partners ensure long-term orders for Rába. For the company, the Vehicle Business Unit is the most significant domestic partner, who places orders for axles and axle spare parts for military trucks on a regular basis. In addition, since the establishment of DANA’s subsidiary in Győr, the American partner’s supplies to its European Business Units have been accounted among other domestic business deals.
